– MALAMA –

Respect and Appreciation

  • Malama means “to care for” and “to protect” in Hawaiian. When you visit any of the Hawaiian Islands, Malama the land, the sea, the culture, and the Hawaiian people.

  • The Hawaiian culture is based on a reciprocal kindness and respect, and if you show Aloha and Malama to others and your surroundings, you will receive an abundance of kindness and Aloha in return.

  • Respect the local community and traditions while enjoying your time at Lē’ahi Lani. Care for others, without the expectation of receiving anything in return. Enjoy your stay with the understanding that the places you will visit are sacred in the Hawaiian culture, and act accordingly.

  • Leave the beach and hiking trails more pristine than when you arrived. Enjoy wildlife from an appropriate distance. Notably, getting close to monk seals and sea turtles is highly frowned upon; both have religious and cultural significance, and they are protected under state and federal laws.

  • Drive with aloha, slow down, show kindness on the road, and if someone throws you a shaka in gratitude for your kind driving, please shaka them back! By leaving the island a better place, visitors will enjoy a richer experience and gain a deeper appreciation for the Hawaiian people and culture.
